On Friday 11 March 2016 the Lennox Head Cultural and Community Centre will officially open Park Lane Theatre with an exciting line-up of live events.

The launch will showcase a variety of performances by artists from the local area. Patrons will be entertained with poetry reading by Techa Beamont, a short film screening by Darius Devas and live music by Ben Purnell and the Zorba Gypsies.

This launch marks a new beginning for the centre with a focus on live arts and culture.

Patrons can purchase pizza and salad, with Olive and Luca catering the event, with light refreshments also available.

The 2016 Ballina Shire Australia Day Awards were announced at the official celebrations held in Lennox Head on Tuesday 26 January 2016.

All award nominations were of a high standard, presenting the review panel a difficult task of selecting the winners, in the categories of Sports, Arts Cultural, Volunteer, Young Citizen, Senior Citizen and Community Event. The Citizen of the Year was carefully selected by the review panel from community members across the Shire.

Ballina Shire will be honouring the achievements and contributions of individuals and groups in the community as well as welcoming 45 new Australians this Australia Day, Tuesday 26 January 2016. A high calibre of nominations has been received across the categories of Sports, Arts Cultural, Volunteer, Young Citizen, Senior Citizen and Community Event of the Year.

This is also a milestone Australia Day for Ballina Shire, as a record number of 45 new Australians will be welcomed during the citizenship ceremony.

Australia Day 2016: Ballina Shire Council is proud to announce the special guest for the 2016 Australia Day Ceremony is sportsman, commentator and businessman, Max Walker.

Max Walker is well educated, well-travelled, a wonderful story teller and a successful businessman. One of Australia's favourite sons of sport, Max Walker was one of a select group of sportsmen who played both Senior VFL/AFL Football and Test Cricket. He played 94 senior games with the Melbourne Football Club and 13 years of first class cricket with Victoria and Australia. He was a significant part of our television landscape as host of the Nine Network's "Wide World of Sports".

Ballina Shire Council is delighted to announce that expressions of interest for the Festival and Event Support Program are officially open!

The Support Program, which has been established since 2010, allows community event organisers to access funding to support their festival or event. The total funding pool available is approximately $100,000 for the 2016/17 financial year.

Mayor David Wright said "Council values the importance of local festivals that aim to showcase the cultural diversity and history of our local community and that deliver economic, social and environmental benefits."

Lennox Head VIEW Club's International Women's Day Champagne Breakfast again attracted a sellout group of 240 women at the Lennox Head Cultural and Community Centre. The delicious breakfast was catered for by the Lennox Grill and attendees were addressed and entertained by a range of speakers and performers. Bec Washington from Ballina who is the World Cup Karate champion and the National Taekwondo champion took part in a candle lighting Ceremony in memory of the struggle and the suffering of the women in the past that enable women to have the voice that they have today and remembering also the women that still today struggle for equality.

The Lennox Community Centre will soon be well-equipped for a wider variety of entertainment and events following the announcement of $200,000 for the Lennox Community Centre.

The funding, announced by Deputy Premier Troy Grant and Nationals candidate for Ballina Kris Beavis, is sourced from tax on gaming machine profits and is used to fund infrastructure projects in NSW. The funding will allow theatre, live performances and film screenings at the centre.
